There is something truly special about a Bernese Mountain Dog 🐾

With their striking tri-colour coats, kind eyes, and calm, steady presence, they have a way of capturing hearts at first sight 💜

Today I had the pleasure of seeing Lola again for her monthly maintenance massage. Lola is a beautiful 10-year-old Bernese Mountain Dog. Like many large breed dogs entering their senior years, Lola is beginning to experience some arthritis — something we often see as these gentle giants age.

Bernese Mountain Dogs are known for their loyalty, intelligence, and deep devotion to their families. Originally bred as working dogs in the Swiss Alps, they were valued for their strength, reliability, and their calm, thoughtful nature. Even today, you can see that steady character in the way they watch their people and stay close by.

I must say.. There is also something incredibly beautiful about a senior dog 🙏🏻

The wisdom in their eyes, the quiet trust they place in the people caring for them, and the gentle way they accept comfort and support.

Lola was an absolute joy to have in the clinic today. Regardless of age, she is like fine wine, an absolutely stunning dog, and spending time with these gentle souls is always a privilege.

Our boy Russell graduated from his Puppy Skills class at The Crunchy Canine last night! 🎓🐾

This six-week program focused on helping puppies learn how to calm themselves, socialize safely with people and other dogs, practice basic commands, and build confidence around new things like vet tables and agility equipment. Russell worked hard and mastered every skill they introduced.

Russell actually started out as one of our foster dogs, and from the beginning we hoped we’d get to keep him. But he was very under-socialized as a puppy. He had really only been around his littermates, and for a long time he was extremely nervous around people—especially men—and trusted almost no one but me. It has taken patience and time to help him work through that.

This class gave him the confidence he really needed. We all like to think we’ll do all the training and socialization at home, but life gets busy (I’m just as guilty of that). Taking one hour a week to focus on your dog—and practicing in between—WILL make a lifelong difference.

Russell is already more confident, and that matters. Nobody wants to approach a scared German Shepherd, and that’s not the life we want for him.

We’re really grateful for what The Crunchy Canine is doing with their puppy socialization classes.

Good training isn’t always about obedience. Sometimes it’s simply about helping a puppy learn that the world is a safe place and that it’s okay to feel confident in their own puppy body 💙

She thrives with structure and would do best in an experienced adult home that can guide her energy and continue her training.

She’s strong on leash and eager to learn. She’s best suited as the only pet so she can focus on building a deep bond with her person.

We made a little trip to Minor Brothers in Waterford today and walked into the cutest Valentine’s surprise — a dog & cat treat sample buffet!

They had little baggies set out so you could choose a few goodies for your pet and bring them home a Valentine treat. Simple. Thoughtful. Community-minded. I love seeing local businesses celebrate our animals like they’re family… because they are.

It doesn’t have to be extravagant to mean something. A small gesture, a special treat, a little extra attention — that’s how we celebrate the ones who greet us every day like we hung the moon.

Pretty Penny recently celebrated her first birthday… and she’s spent every single one of those 365 days in rescue. 💔 She came to Sato Saved at just 5 weeks old, born in a dog house to momma Spice, part of a large litter that all looked alike. While many were adopted, Penny is still waiting.

Here’s the part that makes no sense:
Penny is everything people say they want.

✔️ Fully obedience trained (and loves learning)
✔️ Crate trained & house broken
✔️ Super smart and food motivated
✔️ Great with kids
✔️ Good with other dogs
✔️ Walks beautifully on leash (with only minor, very manageable quirks)
✔️ Thrived in five different foster homes
✔️ Loves exercise and mental challenges

And yet… zero applications in 10 months.

Penny is a Shepherd / Husky / Cattledog / Collie-type mix—an intelligent, driven young dog who needs an active home that enjoys engaging with their dog. She is not “too much,” she’s just too overlooked.

Her adoption fee is $850, which reflects that she is fully vetted, spayed, microchipped, and has had months of professional training and dedicated foster care poured into her.

Rescue can’t move forward if dogs like Penny grow up unseen.

🐾 SEE ME SUNDAY — ROSIE 🐾
Second Chance Auction Animals Rescue (SCAAR) — London, ON

Meet Rosie, an 8-year-young French Bulldog with a big heart, a gentle soul, and a PhD in snuggling 💗 At about 22 lbs, Rosie is the perfect blend of calm companion and joyful sidekick. She loves being part of everyday life, offering kid-approved kisses, supervising household activities, and soaking up all the together time she can get.

Rosie enjoys short, purposeful walks, the occasional zoom around the yard, and—most of all—car rides. Seriously… if there’s a car door opening, she’s already in, curled up, and napping like a champ💤

She does best with mature, polite dogs and prefers a calm indoor environment. Outdoor play with the right dog is great, but chaos isn’t her style. Cats are unknown. Crates are not Rosie’s friend—she becomes stressed—so she’s looking for a home that can skip the crate or work very gently and gradually if needed.

Rosie is house trained, though she wears a diaper for occasional daytime drips (her vet has confirmed there’s no medical concern). Her recall is excellent—call her, and she’s coming. She’s happiest with someone who’s home often or able to take her along while she settles in, and a detached home is best since she may vocalize when left alone.

What Rosie wants most is simple:

Second Chance Auction Animals Rescue (SCAAR) — London, ON

Meet Rosie, an 8-year-young French Bulldog with a big heart, a gentle soul, and a PhD in snuggling 💗 At about 22 lbs, Rosie is the perfect blend of calm companion and joyful sidekick. She loves being part of everyday life, offering kid-approved kisses, supervising household activities, and soaking up all the together time she can get.

Rosie enjoys short, purposeful walks, the occasional zoom around the yard, and—most of all—car rides. Seriously… if there’s a car door opening, she’s already in, curled up, and napping like a champ💤

She does best with mature, polite dogs and prefers a calm indoor environment. Outdoor play with the right dog is great, but chaos isn’t her style. Cats are unknown. Crates are not Rosie’s friend—she becomes stressed—so she’s looking for a home that can skip the crate or work very gently and gradually if needed.

Rosie is house trained, though she wears a diaper for occasional daytime drips (her vet has confirmed there’s no medical concern). Her recall is excellent—call her, and she’s coming. She’s happiest with someone who’s home often or able to take her along while she settles in, and a detached home is best since she may vocalize when left alone.

I don’t normally post about clients’ dogs without permission, but when I work on my own pups, I love sharing little insights for educational purposes. So let’s talk doodles!

If you’ve ever owned a doodle of any kind, you know they’re basically Tigger from Disney—tops made of rubber, bottoms made of springs! 🐅 ..bouncy, fun fun fun!.

You can’t help but smile when they bounce around—they’re built for pure happiness.

But here’s a little behind-the-scenes info: all that bouncing and running means they use a lot of muscle, and that can lead to tension in specific areas. Many doodles carry extra tightness in their thoracic region, chest, and glutes. Their Poodle genetics give them a strong, muscular frame, but it also means certain muscles and joints take on more workload during playtime and walks.

Just like us, their bodies benefit from regular maintenance—even once a month can make a noticeable difference in mobility, comfort, and overall happiness. High-energy breeds like doodles thrive when their bodies are cared for properly. Think of it as helping them keep bouncing like their spring-loaded selves! 🐾💛

🎄 See Me Sunday: Give Wade a Home for the Holidays 🎄
As the days grow shorter and winter settles in, Wade is hoping this season brings something more meaningful than treats and toys — a home to call his own.
Wade is a 3-year-old, incredibly handsome boy with a soft heart that doesn’t quite match his tough-guy looks. Once he feels safe, his affectionate, gentle nature shines through. He loves being close to his people, soaking up reassurance, and curling up somewhere warm on a cold night.
Indoors is where Wade feels most confident. The outside world can still be a little overwhelming for him, but with patience, calm guidance, and consistency, he continues to build confidence at his own pace. A quiet, understanding home would help him truly thrive.
Wade has done well with other dogs in the past. He hasn’t met cats yet, so a cat-free home or very slow, thoughtful introductions would be best.

Scarlett is a 3-year-old, 46-lb firecracker of sweetness who loves her people with her whole heart (and her whole body… leaning included 😅). If you want a dog who shows affection like it’s her full-time job, this is your girl.

She’s smart, eager, and already knows several cues. She just needs someone willing to keep up the positive-reinforcement training and help her polish those leash manners — trust me, this girl could probably haul a small sled team if she wanted to. Strength required… but honestly, she’s worth the arm workout.

Scarlett would do best in a home with mature kids (16+). She means well, but when she gets excited, the jumping and mouthing come out. She’s not being “bad” — she just loves big and feels big.

Dog-wise? She can be friendly with slow, proper intros but, like most dogs, she has some she simply doesn’t vibe with. Totally normal — we all have “nope” people too.
